I am currently the SGA Treasurer the the 2017-2018 school year. I plan to help manage the school by effectively communicating between the student body and staff, especially teachers. I believe that teachers should know and want to know what the students are thinking. With knowing this they can better incorporate everyone into their daily lessons and make appropriate changes to their classroom in order to make student's learning environment safe and fun.

My past leadership roles mostly include my involvement in Boy Scouts. I am a member of Boy Scout Troop 787. I have served in almost every leadership position available. The most important job that I held was Senior Patrol Leader (SPL) for our 50 member troop. A SPL’s term is 6 months and I was twice elected SPL. As SPL I was responsible for planning and running all weekly troop meetings, monthly camp outs, and budgeting each event. I also ran our Patrol Leaders Council (PLC). The PLC is where all of the patrol leaders come together and plan all activities for the next 2 months events. I was an effective leader because I excelled at delegating tasks. I attribute some of this to my special Boy Scout training called National Youth Leadership Training. This class took place in Virginia over several weekends. During this training I learned key skills that helped me become a more effective leader. These skills included items such as reverse planning, delegation, EDGE method and leading by example. One of the most important tools I learned is to utilize are the Stages of Team Development. They are Forming, Storming, Norming and Performing. I am also a tutor at Grays Creek Recreation Center for the children in the after school program for grades K-6. When my schedule allows I tutor approximately 40 students for 2-3 days a week for one hour each day. This job requires leadership skills because I have to earn their respect so that I can help control the group.

As an Eagle Scout I was required to complete a service project. My project required me to keep accurate and detailed records of my finances. I raised $1,024.19 by working with local business such as Home Depot, Lowes, Village Pharmacy and Adams Products Oldcastle. I collected money and was required to make deposits with the troop treasurer. I had to budget my building plan and make sure that I did not spend more than I had collected. At the end of my project I prepared a detailed accounting of all of my income and expenses. I worked very closely with our troop treasurer and I learned a great deal from him.

I also have a credit card. My parents have trust in me and have allowed me to keep a credit card. I generally purchase gas and food. My parents know that I am trustworthy and that I would never use the credit card for non-essential or non-approved purchases.

Since I was a little kid I have my own checking and savings account. I am very familiar with making deposits and withdrawing money. I also know the importance of finances and keeping track of my expenses. Since I was 7 years old I have kept a detailed budget of both my checking and savings account.

One idea I have is to have a school fundraiser where we would sell painting privileges to students with a parking pass. We could charge $20 to students and then allow them to paint (appropriately) their parking space in any way that they wanted. We could even use environmentally friendly paint!
